The Star Fox series was born on the Super Nintendo but really got its breakout hit on the Nintendo 64. That version was hailed not only for its great action and controls but also for its detailed story and high production values. The first two games were of the space-shooter genre, but this one was developed as an adventure game in collaboration with Rare--the folks that brought such games as GoldenEye 007 and Banjo-Kazooie to Nintendo's previous platform. Fox still pilots through some parts of the game, but gets out of the cockpit, too, for weapons-based and martial arts combat. Players control Fox on a mission to save Dinosaur Planet from the evil General Scales. Former crew members Slippy and Peppy are also present in supporting roles.
